John Carmack Says Quake, Rage and More Coming to iPhone
id Software Technical Director John Carmack says the studio has several releases prearranged for the iPhone over the course of the next year, including Quake, Quake 2 and "something Rage-themed" as well.
id is presently workings on both Storm, the debut title for the id Tech 5 engine, and a new chapter in the Doom series. But Carmack has also shown considerable enthusiasm for mobile play, especially since id launched a mobile gaming division in November 2007, and told MTV Multiplayer that he intends to bring many id properties to the iPhone.
"There's nary doubtfulness that we'll die out through Quake and Palpitate 2. I recall that I can believably manage to do Quake 3 on the conventional iPhone platform, if Apple winds up addressing just a few things in their system software system. When you come out looking at at the 3GS, [Quake 3] would not make up a trouble in the least," he said.
"We've got our 3 major prongs, with the standard games [Wolf 3D Classic, Doom Classic]. We have the from scratch games, that End of the world Resurrection is the first of, and we'll probably have something Craze-themed at that place," he continued. "So we've also got our time-honored mobile games, starting with Wolfenstein RPG, which is already done and in the can, simply EA thought everyone was going to cost confused about Wolfenstein RPG and Wolfenstein 3D Classic. They're sitting along that for a piece and I don't do it when they're gonna convey that out."
It nearly sounds comparable id is on the verge of becoming known first and foremost as a peregrine games developer and the company's planned release docket won't act much to change that. "I expect we'll have an iPhone project all two to three months over the succeeding year," Carmack predicted.
